Stay Here: You Have To See This Lush Balinese Resort's Private Art Collection
You've probably heard of Kuta or Seminyak—two extremely popular holiday destinations for those looking to spend a bit of downtime amongst Bali's relaxed atmosphere and welcoming spirit. Previously a low-key beachside village, Canggu has been giving these two Indonesian hotspots a run for their money lately, with a creative, laidback vibe that's just perfect for an island stay. There's a thriving coffee scene, a growing art culture and easy access to picturesque beaches where instructors are waiting to teach you how to catch a wave like a pro. For those who prefer a greener change of scenery, Canggu's lush, tropical jungle provides the ultimate backdrop for a bit of zen. The most exciting recent addition to this bucket list holiday destination is The Slow, a boutique designer hotel with luxurious poolside suites, a health-focused kitchen and a private art collection that could rival a gallery.
The Slow holds a total of twelve breathtaking suites that radiate the hotel's signature tropical-minimalist aesthetic that we're big fans of. Think sleek polished concrete floors mixed with warm walnut timbers and an abundance of indoor plants. The interior spaces in this heavenly resort have been carefully designed to be both warm and inviting and cool and cutting edge—no mean feat! The thoughtful selection of materials makes your experience at The Slow as comfortable as possible, offering a soothing respite to the humid climate on the island. I mean, what could possibly be more relaxing than dipping your toes into your private pool while being shaded by gigantic palm leaves? Not much.
This jungle retreat is more of an immersive experience than anything we've ever seen—a completely modern take on accommodation that eliminates the formalities and allows all of its guests to feel connected, energised and above all, relaxed. You'll spot a mass of contemporary art pieces hung strategically around the place, with a background soundtrack provided by LA’s Reverberation Radio that keeps the vibe strong. Locally made wares and furniture have been favoured to perfectly complement the slick communal spaces where potted plants hang casually from the custom slatted ceilings. The seasonal (and sustainable) kitchen and bar is not to be missed, whether it's a nutritious breakfast to fuel a day of exploring or a large plate of tiger prawns to share with friends with a 'palm flower' cocktail in hand. The Slow's highly-modern yet homely grounds have put Bali's Canggu firmly at the top of our travel list.
