7 Ways to Makeover Your Bedroom for the Warmer Months
Celebrate the changing of seasons with these small but effective makeover tips.
Summer is around the corner – I know, we can’t believe it either – and with the days getting longer and the sun shining brighter, now is the perfect time to freshen up your home for the changing of the seasons.
While most of us head straight to the linen cupboard or kitchen for a good ol’ spring clean, where we rest our heads at night is just as deserving of a refresh.
Want to treat your bedroom like the sleep sanctuary it is? Read ahead to find out seven ways to makeover your bedroom for the warmer months.
1. Swap over bedding
As much as we love a heavy down duvet, it just doesn’t hit the same when the weather starts to heat up. If you have a lighter option to put inside your duvet cover, pop it in and feel the difference as you drift off to sleep with ease each evening. The same goes for throws placed between the sheets and duvet, or atop the bed, if your evenings are starting to lean on the warmer side, it’s probably time to put them away.
If you find a duvet is still too hot for you at this time of year, try sleeping with a quilt for that cosy feeling without the heaviness.
2. Introduce new colours
Celebrate the changing of seasons by introducing some bold colours into your room. Autumn and winter are often associated with deep earthy tones and elevated neutrals, but as soon as spring and summer hit, it’s time to whip the fun colours out. If you’re having trouble picking a bolder hue, try matching it to your favoured interior style and other decor in your room. Some popular linen colours for the warmer months include: Limoncello, Turmeric, Pink Clay, Pistachio, Coast, and Wildflower.
3. Decorate with foliage
Now that the days are getting longer and the sun is out, your houseplants (if you own any) are probably thriving! Use these flourishing pops of foliage as decor in your bedroom to bring the outside in and emanate the radiant feeling of summer. If you don’t have any houseplants, don’t fret! Fresh bouquets of flowers will have the same effect – and make your room smell wonderful too!
4. Put away any winter extras
During the cooler months, we tend to keep extra throws and pillows close by in case of a sudden cold snap or if pesky flu symptoms make their way into your home. If you’re finding these items are being used less and less as you enter the warmer months, put them in your linen cupboard to clear up some space in the bedroom – just be sure to give them a good wash first.
5. Change things up
If you’re craving that true makeover feeling, look at what you can move around in your room. Can your bed be moved beside the window to bask in the morning sun? Can sentimental decor move from one surface to another to make room for a vase of seasonal flowers or fresh-smelling candles? These small but effective changes will keep your space feeling fresh and ready to take on all that summer has to offer.
6. Consolidate your wardrobe
If your wardrobe is in your bedroom, start thinking about which items of clothing you’ll start to wear less as the weather changes. Heavy coats and trousers can most likely be put away, and any clothing for cooler weather can come out of storage and be hung up.
7. Crack a window
If the past few months have been cold and windy, there’s a high chance your windows have been closed for a while. Now that the birds are chirping and the sun is shining, don’t be afraid to let fresh air in. Depending on the direction that your window is facing, sunlight will most likely start to beam through into your room, illuminating all of the beautiful changes you’ve made to welcome the new season!
