Forget painting walls, ordering new furniture, and wishing your space was bigger or shaped differently, we want to show you how you can make small, effective changes to your space without breaking the bank.

1. Play around with the layout

For most people, our couches and/or armchairs are the centrepiece of our living rooms – but this doesn’t mean we should be afraid to move them around! Try playing around with different furniture positions to give your living room a whole new look and feel.

If you don’t have the space or are already happy with the positioning of your couch but still want to make it feel new, add a pop of colour to it in the form of a cushion or throw. These simple additions make a world of difference to the appearance of your living room.

3. Use floral bouquets as decor

No, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on the most luscious bouquet at your local florist (however, you are totally welcome to). Adding branches and greenery in vases is an elegant, easy, and cost-effective way to bring life into your living room.

4. Turn off your downlights

Stop using the harsh overhead lighting in your living room and let your lamps do the work. Don’t have a lamp at home? Head to your local vintage furniture store and find a lamp that will complement your space. Wait for the sun to go down and bask in the radiant glow it emits.

Sticking within the realm of lighting, paper lanterns suspended from the ceiling are an amazing way to utilise the upper third of your room. They radiate a soothing glow and are cheap to both purchase and install.

Let’s be honest, we rarely use the entire surface of our coffee tables – which means they’re the perfect pedestals for displaying gorgeous coffee table books! Already have a collection at home? Great! Put them on display to spruce up your space.

8. Add a plant

Plants are a great way to add depth and dimension to your space – especially if your furniture is all roughly the same height. If your living room furniture is taking up the lower third of the room, add a plant that is taller than everything else to elevate the space.
