12 Delicious Picnic Hampers to Elevate Your Park Socialising

1. Estelle, Melbourne

Northcote haunt Estelle might have been closed for longer than any restaurant in the world (along with the rest of Melbourne’s hospo industry) but that hasn’t stopped Scott Pickett. Locals have been able to enjoy the modern European menu in the comfort of their own homes over the past 18 months and now it's time to take it to the park (or beach if sandy shores are within your reach). Choose between the cheese pack, charcuterie for two or half dozen oysters – or triple down for the ultimate feast. Add the raspberry ripple pavlova and a piece of tiramisu to your order for good measure.

2. Otto, NSW and ACT

Anyone who has eaten at Finger Wharf fine-dining favourite Otto will be delighted to get their hands on this pack. Brought to you by Providoor (perhaps the best thing to come out of Covid closures, no?) the Otto Aperitivo box can be delivered across NSW and the ACT. It features melt-in-your mouth Wagyu bresaola, marinated olives and whipped goats curd with truffle honey – need we say more? Well there’s fresh focaccia and barrel aged Negroni’s to boot. Pop on this playlist and be transported to the Italian Riviera courtesy of your LGA’s finest green space.

3. Three Blue Ducks, Byron Bay

The Farm is a Northern Rivers favourite. For anyone missing their Three Blue Ducks fix, you’ll be pleased to know you can enjoy the same fresh produce, even while the farm gates are closed. Order one of The Ducks hamper’s online at least 48 hours before your picnic plans. These feasts can be tailored to breakfast or lunch, with the option to add extra serves of your favourite snacks (there’s no such thing as too many baguettes when they’re as good as the Bread Social’s). Gather the clan and dig into locally sourced meats, cheeses, sweets and more.

4. Komeyui, Melbourne

What’s better than sushi in the park? Komeyui’s sushi picnic box in the park. After briefly closing its doors to move from Port Melbourne to South Melbourne in March 2020, this beloved Japanese diner has faced its share of hurdles (pandemic notwithstanding) over the last year and a half. Bouncing back stronger than ever, Komeyui jumped on the at-home eats train, including its newly announced picnic packs. Choose the Appetizer & Omusubi Box, the Temari box or both if you’re feeding a crowd (or feeling extra peckish).

5. Aplenty, Sydney

If market-fresh spreads inspired by Mediterranean favourites are your MO, Aplenty is the name to know. While the seasonal menu is set to change, expect homemade dips and pickles, salads, fresh focaccia and crunchy crudite as mainstays. A feast for the eyes as much as anything, this colour-packed picnic kit is available with vegetarian or vegan options. And best of all, it can be served straight from the (compostable and recyclable) box it arrives in. Order online for pick up from Leichhardt or delivery across the city (price depends on postcode), then grab your double-jabbed mates, a blanket and a bottle of something chilled.

6. King and Godfree, Melbourne

Celebrating 150 years in business is no mean feat, and to do it with as much style and taste as Italian deli King and Godfree is something special. Antipasto comes boxed and ready to share, showcasing the best of what’s in store at any given moment. If you’re more of a sweet tooth, the Dolce Mio hampers are packed with chocolates, biscuits and Italian sweets. Stock up on gourmet pantry essentials while you’re there and continue to live la dolce vita after the sun sets on your day in the park.

7. Drnks, Australia-wide

Come for the natural vino, stay for the snacks. The Sydney-based online store has garnered a cult following for its carefully curated packs of wine, as well as its foray into gourmet goods (and pottery/flowers/citrus-shaped candles to briefly summarise the eclectic offering). Keep your eyes peeled for the picnic packs – they sell out fast but generally include cured meat, crackers, cheese and a highly drinkable tipple. If you miss out, simply peruse the ‘Non Drnks’ category and gather your own supplies for a day on the green. If you’re in certain parts of Sydney, they’ll deliver within hours (perhaps even to your favourite park if you ask nicely); for other cities, states and territories these treats come with the promise to ship quickly.

8. Bar Suze, Sydney

This one’s for the fish lovers. A Surry Hills newcomer (it’s doors opened in April 2021 for a few months of pre-lockdown trade) with a distinct Scandinavian slant, Bar Suze has become the fanciest fish’n’chips shop in town. And the seafood picnic shows off its best flavours: think smoked prawns with Danish remoulade, steamed mussels, and grilled octopus with pickles and potatoes. A bar by name, they also offer a very aesthetic line up of bottled cocktails to accompany your pescatarian feast.

9. Milk & Honey Picnic, Sydney

For those looking to create a special event,  Milk & Honey Picnics create unforgettable dining experiences (indoors or out) that utilise the abundant beauty, sunshine and open spaces that Sydney affords. They have transformed the traditional picnic into an extraordinary outdoor dining experience bringing a beautiful picnic set-up to any Sydney location. They provide incredible curated grazing boards, handmade oak low lying tables, rugs, stylish cushion, crockery, cutlery, napery and all the decor to set up a magical event.

10. The Stinking Bishops, Sydney

Cheese connoisseurs will relish the tasty hamper offerings from Newtown venue, The stinking Bishops. There are a fabulous selection of hampers to choose from, all of which have a wonderful selection of cheeses. We recommend the Pic Nic hamper which includes 2 meats, 2 cheeses, crackers, seasonal fruit, olives, pickles, muscatel, a bottle of wine, and all the necessary eating and drinking utensils.

11.  New Farm Deli, Brisbane

As Brisbane's oldest and most authentic Italian deli you know you're in for a treat here. Select from over a thousand different varieties of Australia and international cheeses, house-made focaccia, locally made artisan breads, cured meats and charcuterie, take-home meals, biscuits, patisserie items, oils, vinegars, pasta sauces, preserves and plenty of other fine pantry items.
