What the Year of the Rabbit Has in Store for Each Zodiac in 2023

This year is more likely to be one of diplomacy and peace compared to the last few years.

On Sunday January 22nd, we bid farewell to the Year of the Tiger and welcome the Year of the Rabbit. As with every Lunar New Year, this marks a time for celebration and centres around removing the bad and the old and welcoming the good and the new and is characterised by visits to family and friends, special meals, fireworks, and gift-giving. In Vietnamese culture, 2023 will instead usher in the Year of the Cat (one of the rare instances where zodiac animals vary from the Chinese calendar) on the first day of the Lunar New Year, known as Tết Nguyên Đán.

Below, Feng Shui Master Jane Langof shares the yearly predictions for 2023 for each zodiac animal sign. To determine your animal sign, refer to the year you were born. If your birthday falls after February 4th, your animal sign is that year. If it falls before February 4th, your animal sign is the previous year.

What does the Year of the Rabbit symbolise?

The year 2023 is represented by the rabbit in the Chinese zodiac. This aligns with the spring equinox on the solar calendar. In Chinese metaphysics, the five elements of fire, earth, metal, water, and wood are used to correspond with the zodiac signs. The rabbit sign is linked to the element of wood, and the spring season is associated with new beginnings and fresh starts. 2023 is more likely to be a year of diplomacy and peace compared with the past few turbulent years.

In Chinese astrology, the rabbit is associated with the qualities of diplomacy, grace, and sensitivity. People born in the Year of the Rabbit are said to be refined, well-mannered, and good at creating and maintaining relationships. They are also thought to be artistic, compassionate, and financially lucky. Rabbits are believed to be compatible with people born in the years of the goat, pig, and dog.
