These 7 New TV Shows Are a Must-Watch This October

From the highly-anticipated adaptation of 'Lessons in Chemistry' to a coming-of-age series for 'Sex Education' fans.

The fourth quarter of the year is always the busiest, with calendars full of festivities making free time a foreign concept. Though leisure is a luxury come October, when you are blessed with some downtime, the last thing you want to do is waste it looking for something to watch.

Fear not! We’ve got you covered with plenty of new content for your corneas! Fresh from the UK, Korea, France, and the US, here are the best new TV show to stream this month.

1. Everything Now

Where can I watch it? Netflix

After bidding adieu to Sex Education last month, many of us have wondered how to fill the coming-of-age void it left in its wake. Netflix’s new UK-based series, Everything Now, promises to do just that. Witty, wayward, hysterical and heartfelt, the eight-episode series tackles the highs and lows of high school as 16-year-old Mia Polanco pashes and parties her way through her bucket list post-recovery from an eating disorder. Move over Moordale, and welcome Westmere.

2. Lessons in Chemistry

Finally, one of the most anticipated series of the year has arrived! Based on Bonnie Garmus’ best-selling novel of the same name, Brie Larson brings protagonist Elizabeth Zott to life on screen as a chemist turned cook who seeks to defy the patriarchy. Set in the 50s, the series shines a light on the oppressive gender roles of the time, when women were expected to stay home instead of seeking a fulfilling career. Fuelled by the early sparks of the feminist movement, Elizabeth gives a glorious middle finger to the establishment that tried forcing her into the laundry and away from the lab.

3. Beckham

Where can I watch it? Netflix

Binge it like Beckham over four episodes of exclusive BTS footage of the world’s favourite footballer, David Beckham. Charting his rise from a challenging childhood in Chingford, Essex, to becoming a global football icon, this docuseries leaves no ball unturned. Football fans, celebrity stans, and anyone looking to spice up your life will be captivated by this story of humble beginnings to posh ever-afters.

4. Doona!

K-drama fans unite! Adapted from the popular webtoon ‘The Girl Downstairs’, Doona! stars Seoul International Awards 2023’s Best Actress, Bae Suzy, who plays a K-pop idol named Lee Doo Na. After quitting her K-pop career, she moves in with an unsuspecting college student Won Jun (portrayed by Yang Se Jong), who tries to play it cool with his new roomie despite the obvious allure. Sharehouse seduction has never looked this good.

5. Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe

Where can I watch it? Prime Video

A captivating name, and an even more captivating story uncovered by investigative reporter and journalist Alice Hines. Asking the question “How far would you go to find your twin flame?” this 3-part docuseries delves into the wild world of Twin Flames Universe – a cult-like internet community searching for love that is still online today. Founders Jeff and Shaleia Divine have made a fortune off devoted members who play with fire to claim their ‘Twin Flame’, crossing boundaries and even binaries to find their happy ending.

6. Sullivan’s Crossing

Where can I watch it? Stan

Gilmore Girls walked so that Sullivan’s Crossing could run, so it’s also fitting that Scott Patterson (AKA Luke) plays the role of small-town dad in this new Canadian series that finally gets its Australian release date. Based on the New York Times bestselling novels by Robyn Carr, the past catches up with Neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan, forcing her to return to her hometown of Sullivan’s Crossing. Here, she must face her troubled relationship with her estranged father, played by Scott Patterson (AKA Luke), who seems to have brought his wardrobe from Stars Hollow with him. Bless. Also starring Chad Michael Murray (AKA Lucas in One Tree Hill), nostalgia vibes are high here.

7. Lupin, Season 3

Where can I watch it? Netflix

Lupin broke just about every streaming record possible upon its release in 2021 (70 million households tuned in for season 1), coming in only second place to Bridgerton as the most successful Netflix debut. Born from the 1905 short story, ‘The Arrest of Arsène Lupin’, the French mystery thriller draws inspo from the 17 novels and 39 novellas that followed. Starring Omar Sy as Assane Diop, season 3 finds the master thief where we left him – in hiding. But life away from his wife and son proves harder than he anticipated, and he proposes turning a new page and starting afresh with them, but his past has other plans. More popcorn, please.
