10 New TV Shows You Won’t Want to Miss This May

From season two of Tina Fey’s 'The Four Seasons' to the Duffer Brothers’ new supernatural series 'The Boroughs' and the new instalment of salacious drama 'Rivals', there’s no shortage of TV to check out this month.

In the immortal words of Justin Timberlake… it’s gonna be May. But before we post the meme, let us stop and give thanks to the TV Gods for the bounty they have bestowed on us.

This month marks the release of new series The Boroughs, produced by Stranger Things duo, the Duffer Brothers, while Ozark creator Bill Dubuque also debuts his new South Florida crime drama, M.I.A.

For the horror hunters among us, season three of supernatural anthology series The Terror should fuel the fear, while those after a second serving of story can catch returning seasons of Tina Fey’s The Four Seasons, YA novel adaptation A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, and raunchy English drama, Rivals. Here’s everything you won’t want to miss this May.

1. The Boroughs

Where Can I Watch it? On Netflix

Stranger Things producers and identical twins the Duffer Brothers are back with a new supernatural mystery series, this time trading the Midwest for the Southwest – New Mexico, to be precise. Set in a tranquil retirement community, the eight-ep series follows a motley crew of residents as they team up on an excitingly scary and deeply emotional adventure to uncover a monstrous secret. Starring Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, and Alfre Woodard, The Boroughs is a masterclass in balancing heart and horror.

2. Couples Therapy, Season 5

Where Can I Watch it? On Paramount+

For us sticky beaks, Couples Therapy is a precious gift. The Paramount+ reality series delves deep into the issues facing a slew of couples that sit, shout, and shed tears on psychoanalyst Dr. Orna Guralnik’s sofa. Back in session and featuring four new couples in crisis, season five covers everything from political differences to secret cuddling sessions, alongside a classic case of high school sweethearts growing apart. Captivating and at times hitting a little close to home, Couples Therapy proves eavesdropping can be educational too.

3. The Four Seasons, Season 2

Where Can I Watch it? On Netflix

Season 1 of The Four Seasons was even funnier than expected, with a second season greenlit almost immediately. Co-created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, the last episode uncovered quite the surprise, which will serve as one of the key themes over eight-episodes of Season two. All our faves – including Fey, Will Forte, and Colman Domingo – return with their bags packed for another round of seasonal vacations and stiff drinks.

4. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, Season 2

Where Can I Watch it? On Netflix

Based on Holly Jackson’s hit YA novel of the same name, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder burst onto the mystery thriller scene and screen in 2024 to high praise. Now the second season has arrived, based on Jackson's sequel novel, Good Girl, Bad Blood, which picks up right after protagonist Pip (played by Emma Myers) closed the last case. Just when she was ready to hang up her deerstalker cap, a new mystery ropes her in and leads her even further from the ‘good girl’ life she once lived.

5. Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed

Where Can I Watch it? On Apple TV+

Meet Paula, a newly divorced mum in the midst of a custody battle whose life is hijacked by blackmail, murder, and, of all things, youth soccer. Played by Tatiana Maslany, Paula witnesses a crime – or so she thinks – and decides to go full armchair detective and open her own investigation. Over ten episodes, Paula walks a fine (and blurry) line between truth and paranoia in this darkly comedic thriller that seeks to uncover a conspiracy but may just rebuild her family instead.

6. M.I.A

Where Can I Watch it? On Binge and Peacock

From the menacing mind of Ozark co-creator Bill Dubuque comes this new South Florida crime drama set in the Florida Keys. In a classic case of kill or be killed, the series follows Etta Tiger Jonze (played by Shannon Gisela), a young woman hell-bent on avenging the death of her family and the collapse of their lucrative drug-running business. Seeking revenge through Miami’s seedy underbelly, Etta’s capability is put to the test. Edge, meet your seat.

7. Rivals, Season 2

Where Can I Watch it? On Disney+

Salacious, scandalous, and seriously addictive, raunchy English dramedy Rivals is back with a debaucherous season two. Based on Jilly Cooper’s romance novels, the Rutshire Chronicles, and set in the 1980s in the fictional English countryside, the showbiz drama is centred around the independent TV station Corinium and those caught in its orbit. There’s a wealth of webs to untangle over 12 episodes of season two, promising to reach new heights of hedonism and melodrama.

8. Spider-Noir

Where Can I Watch it? On Prime Video

Finally, after years of rumour and speculation, Marvel’s Spider-Noir is here. Starring Nicolas Cage as you’ve never seen him before (quite literally, as this is his first ever lead role in a TV series), it follows an ageing private investigator named Ben Reilly (Cage) in 1930s New York. Once the city’s one and only superhero, Reilly reflects on his past as he follows a case of corruption involving the mayor and a crime boss. Along for the ride is a cast that includes Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, and Li Jun Li.

9. Star City

Where Can I Watch it? On Apple TV+

Love For All Mankind? Here’s the spinoff series you’ll be thanking your lucky stars for. Lifting back the iron curtain, Star City tells the alt-history of the Soviet Union beating the US to the Moon – only this time from the perspective of the Soviets. Starring Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, and Agnes O’Casey, the eight-ep thriller offers a fantastical take on the space race story, perfectly timed for those patiently awaiting For All Mankind’s final season due next year.

10. The Terror: Devil in Silver

Where Can I Watch it? On Stan and AMC+

Season three of the slow burn supernatural anthology series The Terror is here, and yes, it lives up to its name. This spine-chilling season is based on Victor LaValle’s 2012 novel, The Devil in Silver, following a man named Pepper (played by Dan Stevens) who is wrongfully and horrifyingly committed to the ghastly New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital. Stalking the halls are a slew of sinister doctors and a supernatural bison-headed monster, leaving him with no option but to leave a one-star google review. If sleeping again is on the agenda, you might want to watch this with the lights on.
