Does anyone else have an inexplicable urge to sip tea and screech ‘muh-mah!’?

To say Netflix’s Bridgerton has captivated our hearts, eyes and minds would be something of an understatement. Arguably one of the better book-to-TV show adaptations of recent years, the second season of the revisionist period drama racked up 193 million hours of viewership (just casually) over its debut weekend – all with neither Simon Basset nor his spoon in sight. Impressive.

Of course, the show’s success is hardly a surprise given the backing of screen queen Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal) and the show's strong source material courtesy of Julia Quinn’s best-selling romance novels, each of which follows the life of a different Bridgerton family member as they navigate love amid high society life.

Based on the series’ second book The Viscount Who Loved Me, season two explored the spicy enemies-to-lovers story of eldest sibling Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey, and the spirited Kate Sharma, exquisitely portrayed by Simone Ashley.

Naturally, dearest reader, we had plenty of thoughts and feelings as we returned to Regency-era England for another social season, and we certainly weren’t the only ones.

Below are the 10 thoughts we’ve all had while watching Bridgerton season two.

1. Sure, I’ll watch, but there’s no way this season will be as good without the Duke of Hast...well, hello, Anthony Bridgerton.

Admittedly, when we heard Regé-Jean Page wouldn’t be reprising his role as the dashing Duke of Hastings in season two, we were quite prepared to dismiss the series entirely. Would we watch? Yes. Would we be happy about it? Unexpectedly…yes.

Cue: a sheer-shirted Anthony Bridgerton – back, brooding and how. Sideburns gone and wife search ‘on’, the reformed Rake with a capital ‘R’ brought the heat and then some. From his smouldering gazes to his surprisingly tender exchanges with Kate, he gave us growth, he gave us range and he gave us enough steam to say ‘Simon, who?’.

Well-played, writers, well-played.

2. Does anyone else have an inexplicable urge to sip tea and screech ‘muh-mah!’?

Should one find oneself in want of a Regency-era accent worthy of Lady Whistledown herself, one need only watch Bridgerton for such a wish to be fulfilled. To complete the transformation, merely make haste to the nearest modiste before the evening promenade. Note: tea sold separately.

3. Wait, I know that song. I know I know it. Come on, brain! This is going to bother me until I figure it out.

From Madonna’s Material Girl to Harry Styles’ Sign of the Times and Calvin Harris’ How Deep Is Your Love – that one took us a little longer to guess, we won’t lie – among others, Bridgerton’s season two offering of orchestral pop songs did not disappoint. Never knew we needed a string quartet version of Wrecking Ball but here we are and there’s no going back.

4. Oof, the banter. The chemistry. The lingering looks. Newton, fetch me my fan!

The sensual glances laced with loathing and desire. The torturous pull of familial duty. The whip-smart repartee. The deliciously slow, crescendoing burn. Oh, it’s all too much! Despite the show giving us significantly fewer steamy scenes than in season one, Kate and Anthony’s chemistry had us glued to the screen at every moment, ‘slow burning’ for more (sorry, had to). Let’s just say, from now on, real-life courtship has a lot to live up to.

5. Lady Danbury is everything I hope to be when I grow up.

An icon of the first water, Lady Danbury (played by the inimitable Adjoa Andoh) can never get enough screen time, in our opinion. While she might not be ‘the’ queen, she is certainly a queen and we’ll hear nothing to the contrary.

6. Kate Sharma might be the best romantic heroine… ever.

A fan favourite from the Bridgerton books, Kate Sharma (originally Kate Sheffield in the novels) has earned her beloved status through and through. A beautifully complex character, her love of her family, layered vulnerabilities, and sense of duty guide her to make decisions that put herself last, but never truly sully her untameable spirit.

Plus, her expert roasting of Anthony Bridgerton at every occasion never gets old.

7. Eloise is an unsung icon and I shall not hear otherwise.

Eloise being unable to find a cleverer way to say “no” is us on the daily and for that, we salute her.

8. A round of applause for the Queen’s wig stylist, please.

Let’s be real, those wigs are works of art and the Bridgerton charm wouldn’t be quite the same without them! Fun fact? In an interview with Glamour, the show’s lead hair and makeup designer Erika Ökvist revealed that the team managed to come up with a “cage system” that made sure “all you see on the outside is the hair, but the inside is totally hollow” to keep the already heavy wigs as light as possible. Ingenious.

9. Kate and Anthony. Anthony and Kate. Forever. That is all.

Consider us all vexed by the Viscount and his new Viscountess Bridgerton! An enemies-to-lovers arc for the ages, Kate and Anthony’s love story officially has cemented itself in our hearts and their season three return cannot come soon enough.

10. What. A. Season. Making us wait a year for the next one is just cruel.

Honestly, it should be illegal to make us wait a year for a season we can binge in a day. Excuse us while we take to our bed (threads!) to begin the recovery process—and by that, we mean, binge it all over again.
