We're so excited to have finally landed in Austin, Texas in the beautiful Neighborhood Goods on South Congress Ave! So to celebrate, we wanted to share our favourite things to do in the city.

While Austin, Texas might be known for its music scene and cowboy boots, there's more than meets the eye in this hip and happening area. Whether you're heading in from out of town or just looking to spice up your weekend, there's loads to keep you busy – from retail stores to chic coffee shops and an array of natural gems.

We've pulled together our favourite places to shop, eat, and play in the South Congress Area, so you can experience everything this eclectic city has to offer.

1. Prototype Vintage

Fancy a new frock? Or heading to a groovy dress up party? Prototype Vintage in Austin slings some of the most unique retro pieces to have ever graced a coat hanger. Located on the bustling Congress Ave, this playful store is in the centre of Austin's action. Pop in for a browse and stay for the vibe, this gorgeous store will have you in a trance from the moment you step inside.

2. Neighborhood Goods

Neighbourhood Goods is a new kind of department store. Bringing back the magic of an in-store experience with an ever-changing collection of the world's most exciting brands, this is shopping done differently. A part of the new Music Lane shopping development and situated right under Equinox, you can now touch and feel your favourite Bed Threads Linen in store.

3. Tecovas

It’d be a crime to visit Austin and not at least think about purchasing yourself a pair of cowboy boots. Located in the heart of Austin, Tecovas manufactures their Texan scootin’ boots onsite, so you can get your pair custom made to fit your feet. Allen’s and Heritage Boot are also close by so you can make sure you head home with your perfect pair.

4. Maufrais

Now that you’ve got your cowboy boots, you obviously need a cowboy hat to match. Bespoke hat atelier Maufrais in Austin creates statement pieces custom made just for you! Choose from an array of different styles, materials, and accessories to create your very own wearable Austin memorabilia.

1. Two Hands

It’s not hard to come by a good cup of coffee in Austin, but if you’re finding yourself spoilt for choice, head to the Australian restaurant Two Hands for a delectable feed and ultra-smooth cup of joe. Serving Aussie favourites – think loaded Açaí bowls, nourishing salads and gourmet sourdough topped with parmesan spread, tomato, prosciutto di Parma, and a poached egg – this place is guaranteed to please.

2. Guero’s Taco Bar

A local fave, Guero’s Taco Bar has been serving hand shaken margaritas and flavourful tacos for over 30 years in their landmark building on Congress Avenue. With live music Wednesday through Sunday in the Oak Garden, Guero's is the perfect place to kick back after a long day of shopping.

3. Aba

Mediterranean food with a Californian influence? Yes please! A recent addition to Austin’s bustling restaurant scene, this trendy new restaurant on Congress Ave is a fusion of Israeli, Lebanese, Turkish, and Greek cuisine – perfect for a relaxed evening of al fresco dining.

4. Equipment Room

It doesn’t get much cooler than the underground speakeasy Equipment Room. Sip on a cocktail while listening to a curated selection of music on vinyl. Make sure you book in advance – this place fills up quick!

1. Barton Springs Pool

Keeping Austin cool since 1929, Barton Springs is the only place you want to be when a 40 degree day strikes. Pack a towel, your current read, water, and a bottle of sunscreen, and prepare to have a day you’ll be calling the “best” for years to come.

2. Lady Bird Lake

A not-so-hidden natural gem of Austin, Lady Bird Lake is a must visit if you’re in town. Rent a bike and ride along the boardwalk to soak in the scenery and tour the town on two wheels, or hire a kayak and explore Austin by boat.

3. The Continental Club

Make the most of being in the live music capital of the world by visiting the 'granddaddy of all local music venues'. Slip on your Tecovas boots and grab your Maufrais hat, and head down to The Continental Club to get a feel of what this lively city is all about.
