The arrival of a new year often serves as a metaphor for a fresh start, whether it’s a reinvigorated wellness routine, a daring career pivot, or simply testing out a different look in your home. If you’re on a similar track and feel eager to revamp your abode in 2024, begin the brainstorming process by adding a few new names to your personal mood board.

Ahead, we round up 19 American interior designers and firms – both established and bourgeoning – that have mastered the art of creation. Whether it’s a designer who possesses an effortless knack for layering textures, or another whose ability to create with negative space is a site to behold, there’s something to be gleaned from all of these must-know names.

1. Alexis Brown

This New York City-based interior designer works on both residential and commercial projects, imbuing her spaces with a refined – yet lived-in – attitude. Magnificent use of texture and an artful approach to colour make thumbing through her latest spaces fodder for an inspiration board. Some of her recent notable clients include a Cult Gaia retail space in Los Angeles and several projects for fashion designer, Ulla Johnson.

2. Paige Wassel

Warm and welcoming mixed with a contemporary cool flair, set and prop stylist Paige Wassel is a connoisseur of creating comforting eclectic spaces. Based in LA, Paige shares her years of knowledge and styling wisdom with her loyal followers on Instagram and YouTube, where she tours, critiques, and explores different homes and facets of the interior design world. We were lucky enough to work with Paige on a Makers Tour of artist Jessalyn Brooks, where we stepped inside her converted Los Angeles Warehouse.

3. Athena Calderone

It’s unlikely your home inspiration board does not already possess at least one of Athena Calderone’s inspired interiors—the Eye Swoon founder has perfected the art of a beautiful image. Follow the multidisciplinary artist for her thoughtful references to design periods of the past, while learning how to translate them into a contemporary setting.

4. Anthony D’Argenzio

Anthony is the founder of Zio and Sons, a bespoke design, creative services, and photography studio in New York City and the Hudson Valley. He began his career as a set and prop stylist in New York City which transitioned into interiors and lifestyle design. He transforms properties into luxurious destination rentals imbuing them with old-world charm. Among his notable projects is the dreamy This Old Hudson Maison and Zio Cabin which we toured in our home tour series, The Makers.

5. Claire Zinnecker

The founder of her own boutique interiors group Claire Zinnecker Design, Claire's experience extends to diverse projects in both commercial and residential domains, with notable work including the design of Camille Styles' former residence for Bed Threads franchise, The Makers. Claire’s definition of a beautiful home is “one that looks collected and lived in", which is exactly the aesthetic she injected into her renovated 120-year-old Austin farmhouse.

6. GACHOT

Working across residential, hospitality, and commercial spaces, GACHOT is a design studio to keep tabs on in the coming year. Co-founders John and Christine Gachot and team made a major splash in 2023 with the debut of NYC hotspot Jac’s On Bond, where they transformed a subterranean space into a chic enclave full of crushed velvet banquettes and brassy accents. Their home projects are equally of note, melding textures and materials that bring a space to life.

7. Jeremiah Brent

A pioneer of the quiet luxury aesthetic, interior designer, television personality, author, and founder of lifestyle brand Atrio and Jeremiah Brent Design, Jeremiah Brent is one to follow if you're a fan of opulent spaces. With offices in both New York and Los Angeles, Jeremiah's fine-honed intuition and sophisticated sensibilities have led to the transformation of countless homes and commercial properties across the world.

8. Jane Hallworth

The mastermind being Kirtsen Dunst's charming ranch house which was featured in Architectural Digest was brought to life by the oh-so-talented Jane Hallworth. Approaching design as a synthesis of architecture, decoration and landscape, Jane creates meaningful spaces that reflect the spirit of each individual client. 9. Hadley Wiggins

Sophisticated but homey, refined yet never fussy, designer Hadley Wiggins strikes a perfect balance in all of her spaces, from an artistic New York City apartment to a Connecticut country house oozing with charm. 10. Mark Grattan

Raised in Ohio and now splitting his time between New York, Mexico, and Brazil, Mark Grattan is a designer who celebrates the interplay between colour and texture (he counts tropical modernism, art deco, and modern contemporary Italian design as strong influences in his work). His almost two decades of woodworking also bring a practised perspective to his spaces, and his fearless approach to bold interiors (like this all-lavender hallway) keeps things fresh and nuanced.

11. Studio Dorion

This Brooklyn-based design firm takes both the practicality of a space and its creative potential to flesh out projects that always hit the mark. Take, for example, this striking farmhouse in Pound Ridge, New York where co-founders and design duo Peter Dolkas and Michelle Ficker masterfully outfitted a game room with a midcentury modern-inspired pool table placed below a paper pendant lamp, all enveloped by floor-to-ceiling sage green walls.

12. Jamie Haller

Anyone with an appreciation for giving old homes a new lease on life should have Jamie Haller on their radar; the Los Angeles-based designer regularly restores and decorates Craftsman and Victorian-era properties. She also relies on vintage finds for her interiors, like this incredible wooden wavy mirror and avocado-hued sink scored from eBay. 13. Sally Breer

Based in Los Angeles but raised in New York, Sally Breer brings a savvy perspective to her clientele with both residential and commercial design. The creative has worked with the likes of Zooey Deschanel and crafted hospitality spaces such as Hotel Covell, a luxury boutique hotel in the trendy LA neighbourhood of Los Feliz. 14. Sara Combs

Sara, along with her husband Rich, is the creative force behind The Joshua Tree House a series of upscale yet laid-back retreats designed for individuals to unwind, rejuvenate, and foster creativity. The concept originated from their yearning for a tranquil and artistic haven in nature. Their inaugural property, situated appropriately in Joshua Tree, serves as a desert sanctuary, providing an escape for those seeking respite.

15. Hema Persad

Wholeheartedly dedicated to her craft, LA-based interior designer Hema Persad founded her own design firm, Sagrada Studio. "Home is a vital space for me, and I'm thankful to assist others in realising their dream environments. This fulfilment surpasses any experiences from my past careers," she shared with Bed Threads Journal when we toured her home. When designing her space, her goal is to celebrate the lives of the client through thoughtfully designed spaces that authentically represent their identities.

16. Kelsey Copetti

Kelsey is the principal of Los Angeles interior design and renovation studio, Studio Marrant. She approaches interior design with a passion for storytelling, aiming to craft spaces that are expressive, meticulously layered, and authentically rich. Our design philosophy revolves around utilising vintage and antique pieces as anchors, weaving a soulful narrative with a focus on natural materials, handmade design, sculptural forms, and textural moments. This is beautifully showcase in her unique Joshua Tree Airbnb that we toured in our The Makers series.

17. Jake Arnold

Few careers have skyrocketed quite like Jake Arnold’s – the talented, early 30s designer has an impressive clientele list (he’s worked with celebrities like Rashida Jones, Katy Perry, and Aaron Paul) and regularly collaborates with major retail partners such as Crate & Barrel and Lulu & Georgia. His spaces always incorporate strong use of natural texture and weave together thoughtful details like curved lines, clever accents, and objects reminiscent of the old world.

18. Kellie Brown

Kellie’s superpower is creating beautiful outfits and spaces that sparkle with warmth and personality. “If you look at a picture of your home, it shouldn’t be easily mistaken for anyone else’s… your space should still represent who you are,” she shared in her The Makers home tour interview. The LA-based content creator and founder of Deeply Madly Modern creates spaces that blend retro influences with contemporary details.

19. Geremia

Designer Lauren Geremia is based in San Francisco and supplements a background in fine art to her discipline, crafting spaces that prioritize creativity as a focal point.
